Begin your next adventure...

We are a local group of volunteers who have formed together a Community Interest Company to provide help, support and training for young people in and around the Breconshire area with their Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

Together, we can help all young people, regardless of their background to achieve their dreams and grow into successful, independent and happy adults.

Join Our Community Interest Company as a Volunteer!

Are you passionate about making a difference in young people’s lives? Do you have an interest in the outdoors and the wonderful countryside we live in? Have you got free time on a few weekends throughout the spring and summer?

We are looking for any potential volunteers to help us deliver the Duke of Edinburgh's award scheme in the wider Brecon area.

As a volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Mentor and Guide: Help young participants navigate their DofE journey, providing support and encouragement as they work towards their goals.
  • Outdoor Expeditions: Participate in exciting expeditions, ensuring participants are safe, navigating well and teaching them lifelong skills.
  • Make an Impact: Contribute to the personal development of young people, helping them build confidence, resilience, and a sense of achievement.

For more information and to get involved, contact us either by messaging us via WhatsApp or emailing us at: [email protected]

We look forward to meeting you soon!

Our philosophy

Breconshire Award Scheme Group is a Community Interest Company which is based in Brecon. We believe that the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme should be open to everyone. Therefore we will welcome anyone who wants to register at our centre to do their award. We provide support and help where we can, especially to those who may find doing their Award financially challenging.

All of our leaders are volunteers and give up their time freely to support the young people with their expeditions and other sections of the award.  We therefore keep our costs to a minimum and do not make profits - we reinvest any money back into our equipment and essentials required to deliver the award scheme.

Duke of Edinburgh's Award Levels

Bronze Award

The Bronze Award is open to young people aged between 14 and 25. It will require a commitment from participants to spend 6 months on one of their sections, as well as complete a 2 day expedition.

SILVER AWARD

The Silver Award is open to young people aged between 15 and 25.  It will take new participants a minimum of 12 months to complete but those who have completed their bronze first can finish in 6 months. They will complete a 3 day expedition in more challenging countryside.

GOLD AWARD

The Gold Award is very prestigious.  It is open to young people aged between 16 and 25. It will take new participants a minimum of 18 months to complete, but those who have completed their Silver could complete in 12 months. They will need to complete a 4 day expedition navigating through wild country, as well as complete a residential activity away from home for 5 days.

Why complete your DofE Award?

The DofE Award is recognised across the UK as a way for young people to demonstrate their commitment to their community, bettering themselves and others. It is a way for you to show to potential employers or educational institutions how you stand out from the rest. By committing to completing your award, you can:

  • Meet new people and make new friends
  • Build your confidence around others and new situations
  • Explore and experience new things that you might not have tried before
  • Help and engage with your local community
  • Learn how to be independent and experience life outside home
